PHILADELPHIA - City Councilman-At-Large Jim Kenney released an extensive report Wednesday, recommending the implementation of a 3-1-1 non-emergency service number in Philadelphia. The report follows Kenney’s December 2006 City Council public hearing which discussed the benefits of 3-1-1 for Philadelphia.
3-1-1 is a non-emergency service number where residents can place direct requests for city service as well as obtain other city information. Councilman Kenney’s report details how 3-1-1 works, how city services benefit from it, specific successes in other cities, and necessary costs and conversion steps.
“It is my hope that the next mayor will use this report and my other data to bring 3-1-1 to Philadelphia in the next few years,” Kenney said. “Philadelphians deserve the highest quality of service from their city, and 3-1-1 is a vital part of giving that service to them. It will dramatically improve the way residents access the city, and is a necessary, positive step for Philadelphia’s future.”
